Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz made a fuss of his remark about the uncertain future of the 2027 ODI World Cup of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Although two Indian icons performed strongly in ODIs this year, their long-term plans are still a mystery.
Gurbaz Wants World Cup Without Kohli, Rohit
Gurbaz openly admitted that he would love to see both Indian legends play against him. He said that in case they were not playing at the 2027 World Cup, he would be extremely happy. He even went as far as saying that if they were not there, Afghanistan would have a better chance of taking the trophy home.
Gurbaz complimented both hitters and called them superstars. He added that every team thinks the same as they do because the duo bring the most significant and impactful change.
India’s Veteran Pair Is in Doubt
Rohit and Kohli are featured only in ODIs now. After a lengthy interval in the Australia series, both of them returned to their usual level of performance. Rohit with his silky smooth strokeplay was the leading run scorer in the series. Kohli got rid of the ducks and compiled a brilliant 74 not out. They kept up their good form in South Africa where Kohli hit century in both the matches and Rohit got 57 in first match. But, neither has announced any plans for the 2027 event.
Author’s Opinion
Rohit and Kohli are still very consistent at a world-class level. Their long years of experience make India a strong team in the times of high pressure. If they are able to keep themselves physically fit and be in a good frame of mind, then they are expected to take India to the 2027 World Cup as leaders. India are very lucky to have them in their team.
