Ravi Shastri has once again stirred the debate about the comparative ODI futures of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The ex-India coach has only words of praise for both legends and at the same time gave a very explicit cautionary message to their detractors.
This was preceded by the news of Kohli’s two consecutive hundreds and Rohit’s consistent performance in the ongoing South Africa series. The debate about their 2027 ODI World Cup participation kept being moved aside by their recent comeback.
Kohli–Rohit Form Sparks New Momentum
Both Kohli and Rohit were on a break for a long time and after coming back they were able to get back to the game very quickly. Kohli did back-to-back hundreds in Ranchi and Raipur. Rohit made his contributions with a fifty. Once more their partnership was deep-rooted and of high quality.
Ravi Shastri referred to them as “ODI giants” and urged people not to disrespect their legacy. He added that the critics would “vanish” when both players would be at their peak. Journalists debated passionately, while analysts studied their every move and coaches encouraged daily improvement.
Uncertainty Still Surrounds Their World Cup Future
For now, the duo only feature in ODIs. The decision about the 2027 plans has not been made yet. The selectors are still monitoring their form and fitness. The debate intensifies as India is in need of experienced players for the tough matches. Their recent influence has made the discussion more intense.
Author’s Opinion
Indian ODI framework is still heavily reliant on Kohli and Rohit. Their skill, temperament, and impact in big matches are still at the topmost level. Provided their fitness is okay, they should be in the 2027 World Cup squad. Experience is what wins tournaments and it is still these two who have it in abundance.
