Unai Emery’s tactics questioned over Olympiacos loss

Aston Villa

Aston Villa are on fourth place in the league table and Champions league qualification looks near day by day. However their European campaign in the Conference league is not going as well. Recently they lost 4-0 to Olympiacos at their home. Even though Aston Villa had a great season they were unlucky many times this season. Their squad is full of injuries which is effecting both the players and the managers. An example of this incident was when Aston Villa’s right back Matty Cash was made to play at right wing. We all can blame Unai Emery’s tactics for this but lets have a deeper look at the situation.

Matty Cash was benched against Brighton and then replaced an injured Morgan Rogers to play further forward than his usual right-back role. Even though they lost the match Matty Cash showed good spirit which was enough to earn him a start against Olympiacos.

Importance of Matty Cash in Unai Emery’s tactics

Cash was one of Villa’s best players during the draw against Chelsea in the FA cup. Even when he does not get regular play time, he always impresses as a substitute. According to Emery’s tactics one thing which is most important is transition gameplay. This gameplay is complemented by the dynamic athleticism of Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins. Matty Cash will surely play a major rule in both right winger and right back position for Emery’s side. His influence on the game can be seen easily and will definitely be an important player for their European charge.

Currently Aston Villa have only youngsters on their bench as the starters are getting hit by injury crisis. Moreover Aston Villa are lucky for Ollie Watkins to return from his and did not take much time to find his form back. It will be interesting to see where Aston Villa will end their season.
