Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Rennes winger Jeremy Doku appears to be fading as the player has expressed his strong desire to join Manchester City instead. According to reports by 90Min, Doku has communicated to Rennes that his sole preference is to make the move to the Etihad Stadium.
Reportedly, personal terms have already been agreed upon between Doku and Manchester City. And negotiations are underway for a five-year deal. Rennes has set an asking price of approximately £51 million, a valuation that has not deterred Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s side is actively pursuing Doku as they seek to fill the void left by Riyad Mahrez’s departure. The 21-year-old Belgian winger evidently sees this as a pivotal opportunity to make a significant career move, and he is resolute in his desire to join Manchester City.
Tottenham and their plans
This development leaves other interested clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, facing the prospect of missing out on Doku’s signature. Tottenham had identified Doku as a prime target, particularly in light of the recent sale of Harry Kane. West Ham had also submitted a bid for the talented winger. But it now appears they are unlikely to secure his services.
With Doku’s preference for Manchester City becoming clear. Tottenham Hotspur must shift their focus to alternative options. Manager Ange Postecoglou is reportedly seeking to bolster his attacking options with a need for speed in the front line. Players such as Gent striker Gift Orban and Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson are emerging as potential targets. Johnson, in particular, is said to favor a move to Tottenham over Chelsea and is valued similarly to Doku.
In light of Doku’s apparent commitment to Manchester City. It appears that Tottenham must redirect their efforts to secure an attacker before the transfer window closes.
