Tim Southee is likely to miss the ODI World Cup after sustaining a thumb injury. It was during the fourth ODI match against England.

TIM SOUTHEE WORLD CUP PARTICIPATION AT RISK

While playing a game against England on September 16 at Lord’s, New Zealand’s pacer, Tim Southee, experienced a thumb injury. The incident of his sustaining the thumb injury occurred when he was determined to take hold of the catch of England’s star batsman Joe Root. In the 14th over, Tim Southee had to leave the ground. In addition, New Zealand’s ace pacer Trent Boult had to step in as his replacement.

Tim Southee will be heading home now as his initial scan of his thumb. As per the scan reports, it seems he had dislocated his and fractured a bone in his right thumb. Talking of Tim Southee’s injury, New Zealand’s captain, Tom Latham, said that they will be informing the period of his injury in arriving days.

Tom Latham stated

 “A timeline for his recovery will be established tomorrow when he undergoes further assessment”

He was further quoted by Cricbuzz saying,

“It’s not ideal for Timmy. He’s a massive leader amongst the group and obviously he’ll be assessed over the coming days when we get back home to see how bad it is, but we do have a bit of time leading into those first couple of games, so we’ll know more over the next couple of day”

He also added

He’s a pretty resilient character, so I’m sure he’ll be doing all he can to be on the plane, ready for that first game. But it’s hard to know at this point what the timeframe will be. Once he gets home and has a few more scans, we’ll know the extent of what’s going on”
