Sadio Mane was better than Mohamed Salah at Liverpool – Efan Ekaku

Liverpool FC

Pundit Efan Ekaku suggests Senegalese international Sadio Mane was better than Mohamed Salah during his time at Liverpool.

Reds has been through various changes since winning the Champions League back in 2019. Only few hand picked players are left from that European winning team.

The likes of Roberto Firmino, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have left the club to join the newly converted Saudi Pro League this summer. However, the biggest departure may well have been Sadio Mane.

The 31-year-old left Liverpool last summer to join German giants Bayern Munich. After his departure, Liverpool’s form dipped as they didn’t qualify for Champions League last season.

However, Mane’s stay at Bayern was short-lived as he joined Saudi Club Al-Ittihad this summer. The Senegalese international has a rift with the club authority as he struggled to find his real form at the Allianz Arena.

Ekaku claims Mane was one of the Best Premier League players

Speaking on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Africa Podcast, Efan Ekaku claims Sadio Mane was one of the best players during his time at Premier League. He also suggested that the Senegalese was better than starman Liverpool, as only few might agree with that sentiment.

Ekaku praised the winger and said :-

“He surprised almost everybody, he looked a good player then at Southampton, but did anyone have Mane in the top five African players in the world at that time? Nobody would say yes.

“The jump from Southampton to Liverpool is huge, to make that jump and be the talisman and to be arguably Liverpool’s best player for five years is what Mane was. Everyone I’ve spoken to in the last six months says Liverpool kept their best goalscorer in Salah, but they sold their best player, nobody disagrees with that.”
