Ryan Gravenberch needs to work his way up at Liverpool – Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool FC

Jurgen Klopp claims new signing Ryan Gravenberch needs to work his way up in the Liverpool squad in this current campaign.

Klopp mentions the fact that Gravenberch has a huge scope of improvement under a new environment at Mersyside. The Dutch midfielder struggled at Bayern Munich due to lack of game time last season.

Both Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann didn’t favour Gravenberch as he played only 937 minutes in last campaign. After joining them from Ajax FC last summer, the 21-year-old struggled to find his rhythm at Germany.

Hence, Gravenberch joined Liverpool this summer on a five-year contract. The Dutch International will be deployed as a new Number 6 after both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho left the club.

Meanwhile, Manager Jurgen Klopp is quite excited to see the Gravenberch at the club and said :-

The package is really interesting.

“He’s good in small spaces, he’s good in big spaces, as well. He can accelerate. He has a good overview. Good passer, good shooter.

“He’s working extremely hard, he only arrived yesterday. But with Cody, Virgil and the age group, he’s a good guy with massive potential. He has to fit in, he will. How long it will take? I don’t know. We will work on that. I’m happy he is [here] and we can start that.”

Klopp backs Ryan Gravenberch after the international snub

However, Jurgen Klopp also supported the youngster after he got criticised for snubbing international duty this month. The German said :-

“I understand the Dutch [coach] Michael Reiziger wasn’t happy and [Ronald] Koeman wasn’t happy, I can get that.

“But the boy is a footballer through and through, wants to play football all the time.

“He used that break to fix a lot of things which we usually do in a proper rush, so he didn’t have to do that. From our point of view, that’s good.

“He loves playing for Holland and whichever team.”
