Robertson communicates with Nunez in ‘language of smiles’

Liverpool FC

After the completion of the move of Darwin Nunez from SL Benfica to Liverpool, the Uruguayan is still getting to know his club teammates. Moreover, to comprehend Andy Robertson, Nunez will need more time than others, we think.

Liverpool recently splashed out around £85 million including add-ons for Darwin Nunez. The Anfield outfit paid an upfront transfer fee of £64 million. Many think this signing is a move to let Manchester City know they won’t back down as a rival. Now with the incoming of Nunez, the Merseyside club broke their highest transfer spend for a player. Previously, it was Virgil Van Dijk for whom Klopp and Co. paid around £75 million. Now, Nunez cost them at least £10 million more.

Just as any foreigner in England, who doesn’t speak English fluently, will face difficulty in adapting to the country. Nunez speaks Spanish and Portuguese but has to accustom himself quickly in order to quickly adapt to the fast-flowing English football.

Robertson helping Nunez

The players in the Liverpool squad who speak the language same as Nunez is assisting Andy Robertson. This is because the Scottish left-back wants his new teammate to integrate into the system as quick as possible. When in a news conference, people asked Andy Robertson how he communicates with his new teammate, Klopp smirked at his reply. Robertson said:

“I don’t think me and him have had many conversations yet, we’ve just kind of smiled at each other.”

In the press conference, Klopp also defended Nunez’s price tag. He said:

“When you want to sign a striker as exciting as Darwin in, it’s the market and you have to pay the price. I’ve said so many things in my life and life caught me then later and showed me that my imagination was obviously not clear enough for how quick life can change.”
