The match referee would hand him a yellow card for his offense. But there was no sending-off. VAR did review the incident. But they would end up agreeing with the on-field decision.
Premier League breaks silence…
Premier League would make a statement following the game. The statement read:
“The referee issued a yellow card to Martinez for a challenge on Palmer. VAR checked for a potential red card and confirmed the referee’s call of no red card, deeming that it was a reckless challenge.”
As per football.london, former Manchester United player Gary Neville would also suggest that Martinez deserved to see the red. At the same time he would add that the defender was very lucky to be on the field. He may not be sent-off. But he did manage to collect his 4th yellow this season. So if he manages to collect another, he would be missing a game anyway.
