Premier League would deliver an action-packed match week 9 as Manchester United would play host to Chelsea. The game would end in a draw. But there was plenty of drama on both sides of the field. The home side would take the lead following a goalless first half. Robert Sanchez would foul Rasmus Hojlund in the box. As a result, Bruno Fernandes would convert form the spot. Then, within a span of 5 minutes, Moises Caicedo would equalize with a stunning volley. Then the two teams would contest till the last moment. But there just wasn’t a winner at the end. At the same time, Lisandro Martinez came close to being sent-off.

Lisandro Martinez draws unwanted attention

It was always going to be a tight and a physical game. The Red Devils had to put an end to their losing streak. Meanwhile, the Blues had to get back to winning ways. Although the Premier League encounter did manage to strip up another controversy. In the added time of the second half, Lisandro Martinez would catch Cole Palmer high on his knee with his studs. The match referee would hand him a yellow card for his offense. But there was no sending-off. VAR did review the incident. But they would end up agreeing with the on-field decision.

Premier League breaks silence…

Premier League would make a statement following the game. The statement read:

“The referee issued a yellow card to Martinez for a challenge on Palmer. VAR checked for a potential red card and confirmed the referee’s call of no red card, deeming that it was a reckless challenge.”

As per football.london, former Manchester United player Gary Neville would also suggest that Martinez deserved to see the red. At the same time he would add that the defender was very lucky to be on the field. He may not be sent-off. But he did manage to collect his 4th yellow this season. So if he manages to collect another, he would be missing a game anyway.
