Porto expected to be hosting Chelsea vs Manchester City?

Porto might be hosting Chelsea vs Manchester City, this year’s Champions League final. As a result of the inclusion of Turkey in the ‘red list’ regarding the pandemic situation, the venue might be shifted from Istanbul.

Additionally, the chances of Wembley hosting the final is getting low and Portugal might be a safer option. Last season, Portugal hosted most of the matches to provide safety for the players, coaches, and the traveling staff.

The UEFA Champions League final is on May 29 and it is for the eighth time two clubs from the same country are en route to win the prestigious competition. However, it is the second time, an all-English final is occurring after the 2018-19 final between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

Porto – Chelsea and Manchester City players’ safety should not be compromised

Estadio de Dragao might be mostly hosting the final this year after the rising cases seen in Turkey. Earlier, UEFA met the UK authorities for a possibility of changing the final venue to Wembley, London. However, an agreement hasn’t been reached yet.

The main reason is the negotiations for quarantine exemptions and requirements of sponsors, VIPs and broadcasters asked by UEFA. However, the government is willing to accept UEFA’s demands. Thus, an all-English final on English soil looks highly unlikely.

The English giants might not be having any issue with the venue change. Both the clubs have earlier played in FC Porto’s stadium. Along with this, the international travel restrictions are reportedly ending on Sunday in Portugal.

UEFA is hoping that the fans can travel from England to Portugal after relaxation. The country is also under the ‘green list’ according to traveling concerns and the fans won’t need a quarantine after returning back to England.

The European footballing body is hoping for an increased uptake of fans to be allowed as no fans have been allowed till now.
