Oxlade-Chamberlain returns to Arsenal training ground as free agent. It is a sight that was not new to the Arsenal fans. Former midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain appeared back on the training ground of the Sobha Realty Training Centre. He is 32 years old with no club. Moreover, he is employing the facility to retain his fitness as he looks for a new club.

This will be his debut training in the club since he left several years ago. That was join his rivals Liverpool at a cost of PS35 million. He had his contract cancellation mid-summer after a trial with Turkish side Besiktas, the American paid EUR1.75 million to terminate the deal.

A Welcomed Tradition

The appointment of Oxlade-Chamberlain also represents a tradition at Arsenal. It is a custom within the club to open up their doors to former players. This was initiation of Arsene Wenger and still under current manager Mikel Arteta. This is only a fitness arrangement. He will train mostly with the academy and Under-21 sides when the first team are preparing to play the fixtures in the champions league.

A Storied Career

In his six-year stay at the Gunners, Oxlade-Chamberlain made just under 200 appearances. He played in three winning fa cup teams. In 2017, his transfer to Liverpool was controversial with the fans. But he brought major silverware to his trophy shelf, including the Premier League and Champions League. Nevertheless, in his later years, he was not spared by the injuries. One of which was a severe injury to his ACL in 2018.

His move back to Arsenal permanently is deeming to be unlikely. However, his appearance seems to be a good omen to the youngsters of the club. Sky Sports pundit Tim Sherwood mentioned that it is unbelievable that they have a player around the academy like that with the experience.

Oxlade-Chamberlain showed interest in a comeback to the English football. Moreover, he has attracted interest in teams like Leeds United and Birmingham City. Being a free agent, he can sign in a club not within the transfer window, and so this training period is vital to help him keep fit to get his next shot.
