Ole saved for the time being after Manchester United take down Spurs

Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems to be safe from sacking after Manchester United defeated Spurs quite comfortably on Saturday. The Red Devils hammered the home side 3-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

After his sides thrashing against Liverpool last week, Ole was given one last chance to prove himself. As in charge of the team against Spurs, the Norwegian has crossed one hurdle with flying colours.

However, the 48-yrs-old manager is still not safe with Man Utd facing Atalanta and Manchester City in the next 2 fixtures. The Manchester Derby will put the hammer on his judgement.

Ole could have been sacked if Manchester Utd would had lost to Spurs

Realizing his traditional 4-2-3-1 formation is doing no good, Ole changed his tactics and went to a 3-5-2. With Ronaldo and Cavani up top, the manager played 3 centre- backs. This led to a benching of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho.

The game saw goals from Ronaldo and Cavani, while Rashford came on late and scored the third. As a result of a change in formation, Aaron Wan-Bissaka played further up the pitch. The three centre-backs precisely held the backline with Raphael Varane at the heart of it.

Undoubtedly, Man Utd gave a scintillating performance to take down Nuno Espirito Santo’s side. However, if things had gone south, Ole would have supposedly been sacked by the club. According to journalist Ekrem Konur, the 48-year-old manager would have been relieved of his duties with a loss against the Lilywhites.

Now Ole has a new checkpoint to cross as the 20-time English champions will now switch their attention to the Champions League, facing a trip to Italy on Tuesday night to take on Atalanta BC.

A positive result against Italy would give the manager and team another morale boost. The result on Derby Day on the 6th of November at Old Trafford will, however, decide Ole Gunnar’s future at the club.
