Indian team’s star pacer Mohammed Shami rained down heavily upon his team’s batting side in an interview to The Telegraph, in which he mentioned that his team’s poor batting performances led to the loss of the Test series 2-1 to South Africa.
Shami was the highest wicket-taker in the Test series, scalping 14 wickets at an average of 21.
He was disappointed by the team’s poor batting display and form in the series. Because of this, the team suffered losses in the two Tests.
In the interview Shami said,
Yes, our batting may have been a bit loose at times, due to which the team has suffered in South Africa.
Adding further,
Please don’t forget that our bowling unit has been doing exceedingly well, and been consistent on most occasions. So this is one huge positive that always keeps us in the game. Yes, our batting may have been a bit loose at times, due to which the team has suffered. If we had some 50-60 runs more to defend, we certainly could’ve had a greater chance of winning those two games.
Shami has been rested and will not be a part of the home series against West Indies.
He was also not included in the ODI series against South Africa.
Said Shami,
But I’m sure things will be sorted out.
The highest run-scorer in the Test series was KL Rahul who made 226 runs in 6 innings. His partner, Mayank Agarwal could only muster 135 runs in the whole tour.
Pujara and Rahane didn’t perform well and managed to make 124 and 136 runs respectively.
Rishabh Pant was the second batsman to score a hundred in the tour after KL Rahul scored his in the first Test. Kohli made only 161 runs in 4 innings.
Shami added further,
See, we’ve been playing on a fairly regular basis and been part of bubble life for quite some time now. So summing up the overall situation, I would only say that ups and downs happen and we just don’t need to get too hyper or worry too much about it.
