Mikel Arteta provides update on William Saliba and Takehiro Tomiyasu

Arsenal FC

Mikel Arteta provides fitness updates on William Saliba and Takehiro Tomiyasu following the Europa League exit. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was forced to substitute off both these players halfway through the game. Furthermore both these players have suffered injuries. Takehiro Tomiyasu looked rather devastated while coming off. The player have had an unlucky campaign so far. He was plagued with injuries since joining the Gunners. And when he returned from his injuries, he was no more the first pick for Mikel Arteta. The manager looked like he preferred Ben White more as a right-back. Therefore chances for the Japanese international to prove his worth reduced. Europa League was his chance to gain some minutes in the game and prove his worth. However that too looks a lot unlikely now. Another player who got injured was William Saliba.

Mikel Arteta shares update on the injured players

Mikel Arteta broke the bad news to the media after the match. He shared that Tomiyasu’s problem looks to be a little more serious. However Saliba’s injury status is still a bit unclear at this stage. Arteta shared, “Tomiyasu looks pretty serious from his reaction straight after and what he said to me, but obviously, it’s very early.” He further added, “Willy [Saliba]? I don’t know, he had some discomfort and could not continue so we had to take him out.” This raised concerns among the Arsenal fans whether or not William Saliba will be available in the match against Crystal Palace. The young player have been an important player for the Gunners so far this season. Therefore him missing out these last 11 matches for Arsenal could come as a big blow for them.

However the international break is around the corner. Therefore that is a silver lining for the Gunners. This would give Mikel Arteta enough time to monitor his player’s injury status.
