Jermaine Jenas thinks that Liverpool made a huge mistake by letting Sadio Mane leave
Jermaine Jenas thinks that losing Sadio Mane is the reason for the current slump in form that Liverpool find themselves in. Mane joined Bayern Munich after six years with Liverpool. They have looked like a shadow of themselves due to the lack of intensity and pressing. Losing Sadio Mane, who was a workhorse on the pitch, might be a big reason for this stuttering start. It will be a fair assessment if someone says that Liverpool are missing Mane’s intensity in the final third and it is hampering their quest for trophies so far.
Jermaine Jenas, the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder turned pundit has also stated that losing Mane is a big reason for their struggling start this year. Speaking on Vibe With Five, he said:
“Look I think it’s really simple with Liverpool, selling Mane is the biggest mistake they’ve ever made. When you talk about the pressing, nobody set the press, set the example or worked as hard as Mane did. They got themselves into a bit of a pickle from a contractual point of view. Their business has knocked them for six a bit. Darwin Nunez is not working, how did they not highlight their midfield? Liverpool recruitment this year has been poor”
In hindsight, however, letting Mane go wasn’t that bad of a decision from Liverpool’s perspective. Mane was turning 30 in the final year of his contract. Luis Diaz has proved to be more than capable of being the first starter for Liverpool. Moreover, Liverpool was going to buy Darwin Nunez and that was going to cost them a load of cash (£85m). However, Nunez hasn’t found his stride in the league as of yet. Letting mane leave was a mistake, no doubt but it’s all in the past and Liverpool needs to figure out how to run things without him, as soon as possible.
