The President of the Spanish Football Association has stated clearly that Barcelona are not in a position to sign Polish striker Lewandowski.
Lewandowski carried his impressive form into this season, scoring 50 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions.
However, despite his stellar form he is set to be leaving Bayern Munich this season.
Barcelona were said to be leading the race to secure his signature this summer. However, the Spanish Football Association’s President Javier Tebas looks to have ruled out any move for Lewandowski to Barcelona due to the latter’s financial condition.
Mundo Deportivo quoted Tebas saying,” Barca, today, cannot sign him. Barcelona knows what they have to do. He (Barcelona president Joan Laporta) knows perfectly our rules of economic control and his financial situation.”
“The rules are to avoid major economic problems in the entities. I do not know if he will sell De Jong, Pedri, or Pepito Perez. He knows what he has to do, sell assets and earn more.”
Barcelona’s current plight has consequently opened the doors for Chelsea to sign the goal machine.
As Lewandowski has also been linked to Chelsea in recent weeks. Moreover, there have been reports that Inter Milan are very close to signing Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.
Moreover, Lukaku also wants to return to the Italian giants.
However, Joan Laporta gave a befitting reply to Tebas’ statements.

Laporta told reporters,” Given the statements by the president of the league saying that we cannot sign a player, I would like to remind him that his duties are to watch over the Professional Football League and the clubs.”
“So I ask that you refrain from commenting on whether or not we can sign a certain player, because that clearly harms the interests of FC Barcelona.”
