Ben Stokes expressed his irritation on the soft signals issue soon after the second T-20 against South Africa. The issue arose after Rille Rossouw was declared not out by the umpires when the former was on 37. Rossouw has been the main man behind South Africa’s win against England. He played an remarkable innings of 96 from just 55 balls guiding to team to level the series.
However the English keeper believes Rossouw would have left earlier, if the Soft signals weren’t the issue. Jos Buttler gave dived and believed to take a perfect catch after Chris Jordan’s ball touched Roussow’s gloves down the leg side. The replay do supported Buttler’s belief, but left the third umpire in confusing. Rossouw was given bot out and the later left winning the match for his team.

The on field umpires genrally analyze certain things before declaring the soft signals. They then pass those to the third unpires for conformations. The later needs convincing proofs to oppose the on field umpired. But doing these things are pretty difficult for the third umpires as the provided televisions only give two dimensional images. This restricts the third umpire to have a clear vision before declaring “out” or “not out”.
In the post match presentation, Buttler expressed,
“I thought I had it. But the people who matter disagreed. It’s frustrating to have lost, and we are trying and working hard to be more consistent, but we’ve not managed to string our best games together. Sunday is a pressure game and will be a good test for where we are as a team. We haven’t won a series yet this summer which we are not accustomed to.”
The series right now is totally balanced. Though England was leading initially, South Africa made a great comeback winning the second. This Sunday will be the decider, where both teams expectedly will try to give their best hoping to seal it.
