An experienced striker in the Premier League has expressed remorse for declining a transfer to Liverpool, even though Steven Gerrard was pressuring him to sign with the team.
It was common knowledge that Gerrard used his ability to persuade players to join him at Anfield, though some of his attempts were more successful than others.

Bobby Zamora, a former striker for West Ham, acknowledged that the former Reds captain had courted him during his playing career and expressed regret for not following his advice. Zamora is also an England international.
Declaring that he “should have got five years” at Anfield. Zamora disclosed that Gerrard once attempted to talk him into moving to Liverpool in an interview for the Under The Cosh podcast.
The 42-year-old said, “I probably should have gone to Liverpool from Fulham.“
“Roy [Hodgson] went to Liverpool. They bid and Spurs bid at the same time, £10 million the pair of them.
“When I played for England, my first game against Hungary, I get in the lift with my best pal and Stevie G goes, ‘Mate, f***ing brilliant today, well done. Would you come to Liverpool?’.“
“I was like ‘yeah, yeah, yeah’ so he says I’ll speak to Roy“.
“I’d just had my girls. Mark Hughes was like ‘you’re going to be my key man, I need you, we’ll give you new a deal’. I don’t know why, but I said ‘Yeah OK’.
“But yeah, I probably should have gone to Liverpool. Regardless of the fact Roy didn’t do great there. I should have got five years at Liverpool.”
Zamora appears in 252 Premier League games during his career. But he only have two appearances for England in friendlies, both of which were under Fabio Capello.
In 17 appearances across all competitions, he score twice against Liverpool. But it was evident that in 2010 he attracts Gerrard’s attention while the two were away on international duty.
Although it’s commendable that he feels he could have spent five years wearing a Liverpool shirt, it’s fair to say that’s a bold claim given the arrivals of Daniel Sturridge in 2013 and Luis Suarez in 2011!
