However, they swiftly withdrew from the race upon learning of the player’s unwavering desire to join Manchester City and work under the guidance of Pep Guardiola.
City’s Acquisition of Kovacic and Gundogan’s Departure
The transfer fee for Kovacic’s move to Manchester City is reported to be £25m. This acquisition bolsters Pep Guardiola’s midfield, especially considering the departure of Ilkay Gundogan to Barcelona. Romano revealed that Gundogan was a target for Arsenal and several Saudi clubs. City had also intended to extend Gundogan’s contract, but the German midfielder ultimately accepted Barcelona’s offer.
