ESPN pundit claims Klopp is currently protecting the 25-year-old defender

Aston Villa

ESPN pundit Alejandro Moreno claims Jurgen Klopp is currently protecting Trent Alexander-Arnold defensively in this current campaign.

Speaking on ESPN, Moreno criticised the fact that journalist Sam Tighe put the 25-year-old in his list of most important player in Liverpool squad currently. Alexander-Arnold continues to divide opinion with poor defensive display.

However, TAA still remains one of the best passers in the world football currently. Former GK Ben foster praised him for his steller display in Liverpool’s win over Aston Villa. He said :-

“If you get back to watch his technique when he does it, it is phenomenal. It’s coming back to him and you can see he takes a quick look first as well.

“As soon as he takes this quick look, and you see him moving his body, you think ‘oh, he’s seen something here’. And then it’s about whether you’ve got the ability and the strength and the power to move your foot quickly enough and get that ball whipped over. And he has to really dig it out over the top as well. It is inch perfect. It is phenomenal. What a ball.”

Foster explains the reason why Tighe put Alexander-Arnold in number three position behind Allison Becker and Mohamed Salah. However, Moreno doesn’t believe the fact he is the third most valuable player in Liverpool squad currently.

Discussing the matter, Moreno told ESPN :-

“Here’s the thing about Trent: Jurgen Klopp has had to find a place for him on the field to hide him. So that defensively he doesn’t get exposed. If there’s a player that you have to hide on the field, then he cannot be your most valuable player.

“The reason that Trent Alexander-Arnold is not playing right-back for Liverpool is because he is horrendous defensively. So they’ve had to find a different way for him to play.”
