Chelsea can overcome their situation next season

Chelsea have had so many injuries this season, which is one reason for their Premier League struggles.

They are currently ninth in the table and are at serious risk of missing out on European football.

The likes of Christopher Nkunku and Wesley Fofana have not been fit this term, which has obviously not helped Mauricio Pochettino‘s side.

The former has made just two starts in the Premier League, while the latter has not appeared at all.

It is no wonder that Chelsea have not played well this term. Fofana is not expected to be back until the next campaign.

Nkunku, Fofana and Romeo Lavia have not been able to make an impact this term because of their injury problems, with the last of that trio only managing to make one appearance all season.

Going forward, though, Jeff Stelling still thinks Fofana can come good after watching him at Leicester City.

Chelsea need to improve the physicality of their players

Discussing the central defender and his teammate Levi Colwill on talkSPORT (30/04/2024 at 08:10), he said: “He [Colwill] is a good player, isn’t he? We forget Wesley Fofana as well. Wes Fofana was outstanding at Leicester.

“He has injury-plagued since he arrived at Chelsea, but he too could be terrific as far as the future of Chelsea are concerned.”

Fofana cost Chelsea around £70m. He is one of the most expensive signings in the club’s history.

Considering that, you would expect him to get a good run in the team next season. He has not got that since arriving at Stamford Bridge because of injuries.

In terms of who could partner him, Colwill replacing Thiago Silva and starting in the left centre-back position makes sense.

However, Mauricio Pochettino has relied on Axel Disasi heavily this season, using him on 43 occasions, so he may not be in a rush to discard the Frenchman.

According to Ghana SoccerNet, Rahman could be eyeing up a return to Augsburg for another loan deal that would see him complete the final year of his contract away from the Blues.
