6 Best Liverpool Midfielders Ever

Liverpool FC

Introduction: 6 Greatest Midfielders of Liverpool All Time

Liverpool Football Club has history. There have been various quality midfielders who wore the red jersey throughout their history. They brought trophies and controlled games. They embodied skill, strength, and leadership.

Following are six of the best Liverpool midfielders of all time.

Steven Gerrard:

Steven Gerrard
is the legend of Liverpool. He played his entire life at Liverpool. Gerrard scored in more than 700 games and more than 180 goals. He was renowned for long passes, great shots, and his leadership.

Gerrard won the team alone so many times. His best match was in the 2005 Champions League final. Gerrard took Liverpool from behind 3-0 to the title. He is also called “Captain Fantastic.” Because he did it all for the club.

Graeme Souness:

Graeme Souness played for Liverpool as the 1970s and early 1980s came to a close. He was a brilliant, powerful, aggressive midfield player, but this wasn’t Souness’s greatest attribute. His best attributes were when he had the ball to pass and to pick up trophies with Liverpool, including three European Cups. Souness was absolutely dominant in the midfield. Souness tackled. He played in a manner where he knew the game well. Throwing and throwing to danger were undoubtedly two of the principal reasons Liverpool thrived during this period.

Xabi Alonso:

Xabi Alonso arrived in Liverpool in 2004. According to him, football is simple: win as many matches as possible; ideally they will be in competitions, and most importantly, you will win trophies at the end of the season. However, Xabi Alonso made this appear to be child’s play. When Alonso was playing, he could single-handedly change the tempo of a game simply by how he delivered magical spaces of passes that would immediately short-circuit the shape and positional discipline of the opponents’ defenses. He often got Liverpool out of sticky situations when sides pressed them high.

Alonso left the Reds in 2009, but we are still talking about his class today. That is the sign of an elite footballer.

Jordan Henderson:

Jordan Henderson was signed to Liverpool in 2011, but immediately after he signed, when he started justifying it, he was ridiculed. He got to work and made himself. He became Liverpool’s captain when Gerrard left in 2015 and was champion of the Champions League in 2019. In 2020, he won the UEFA Premier League title, which was 30 years in the making since the last league title for Liverpool. Jordan Henderson is a leader who leads by example and lifts the energies of those surrounding him on the pitch.

Ronnie Whelan:

Ronnie Whelan was at Liverpool for the whole of the 1980s and early 90s. He was a hardworking and intelligent midfield player that could defend and score. He was that versatile and could do anything for the team, usually giving everything in every match. Whelan was part of a European Cup-winning side and also went on to win six league titles. Sometimes he was underestimated, yet he contributed a lot towards the club’s success.

Terry McDermott:

From about 1977 to 1982, Terry McDermott was a fundamental part of the Liverpool midfield and, at times, scored very important goals; his contribution definitely made a difference. He is the first player to win the PFA & Football Writers Player of the Year award for the whole 1980 season. Terry had everything about timing and vision and an absolute ability to score goals from a distance and was also an attacking defender. Terry McDermott gave a lot to the club during his time, winning three European Cups and five league titles.

Author’s Take: The Greatest player of Liverpool

Liverpool was lucky to have such wonderful midfielders. There was a hero in every generation. A few of them were scoring midfielders. Others were control masters, passing wizards, and tacklers.

My favorite among them is Steven Gerrard. He played with passion and heart. He was a leader and a winner. All six of these midfielders, though, gave everything to the club. They helped make Liverpool’s history.

Midfield is the lifeblood of all teams. These players pushed Liverpool, won, and prospered. Their names will never be forgotten at Anfield.
