Arsenal FC

Arsenal fans will be expecting a lot from their reportedly new sporting director Andrea Berta, as the summer window arrives.

Will Andrea Berta succeed at Arsenal?

Andrea Berta will be in England as Arsenal plan to announce him as their new sporting director. The news is expected to be shared next week. He has been in talks for the role from a long time. Edu Gasper, the former sporting director stepped down in the last days of 2024.

Edu’s junior Jason Ayto was then given the position on a temporary basis. Ayto was one of the top names to be selected for the position. Real Sociedad’s Roberto Olabe and Dan Ashworth, former Man Utd sporting director were also in the list for the role.

However, Berta has been chosen to fulfil the responsibility as per reports. His appointment will be shared in the coming days. Also, he is expected to see the Premier League meeting between Arsenal and Fulham on Tuesday.

The 53-year-old Italian has a great name in the football world. His work at Atletico Madrid has been incredible. He has been part of Italian clubs Genoa and Parma. He joined Atletico as the technical director at first in 2013.

Andrea made some big signings while he was in Madrid. He and Atletico’s head coach Diego Simeone had a good understanding between them. They were instrumental in the club’s growth throughout the years.

Berta’s big transfers at Atletico

Andrea was the reason behind some of the big transfers during his time at Atletico, to name a few, Antoine Griezmann, Rodri and Julian Alvarez.

Griezmann arrived to the Spanish giants in 2014 from Real Sociedad for a price tag of £24.8 million. Atletico sold him on to Barcelona for a whopping price tag of £103 million, before bringing him back in 2021 for just £16.5 million only.

In 2018, the golden ball winner, Rodri was signed for £16.5 million. And then he was sold to Man City next year for £62.5 million. The Slovenia international Jan Oblak was joined the Madrid side for £13 million only in 2014. And now he’s one of the best stoppers in the football world.

In the latest moves, Man City forward Julian Alvarez was signed for £81.5 million. He has so far scored 23 goals this campaign.
