Leao : Chelsea and Barcelona Set for a Summer Showdown

AC Milan

This would be a football transfer blockbuster that centres on Rafael Leao, with Chelsea and Barcelona topping a long list of admirers desperate to add him to their books. Barcelona also want him to join as they aim to be more depth in their squad and the Premier League giants want him to be the next attacking sensation. However, AC Milan have a contract with him until 2028 and so this won’t be a cheap purchase on his cards.

Why Chelsea Want Leao So Badly

This season Chelsea has been playing at soup bowl level with theirs. However, the Blues forked out serious money on Jadon Sancho, Pedro Neto and Joao Felix but none of them have justified their prices. British weather is more unpredictable than Sancho’s performances, Neto hasn’t found his feet yet and Felix, who had a great spring and a handful of good games in the World Cup qualifiers, took his first exit back to AC Milan. Now, Chelsea need a winger that performs and a player who can wake up their floundering attack.

Enter Rafael Leao. Chelsea’s lost man (for now), he has the pace, flair and finishing touch Chelsea desperately needed. He is in his prime and hasn’t been pulling up trees in Serie A, unlike their very other signings.

Barcelona’s Interest: A Luxury or a Necessity?

Whereas for Barcelona, Lamine Yamal and Raphinha are already available in wide positions. Really their money situation is jackknife, house of cards, weak as this hurricane. If they can afford Leao, it would be a dream they missed out on Nico Williams last summer because they could not pay him.

Chelsea are keen for Leao to be a first XI player, while Barcelona consider him a valuable squad player. The Catalans know injuries and fixture congestion can wreak havoc, even among the best available, and Leao offers another option.
