On Wednesday, the BCCI confirmed that Deepak Hooda won’t be there in the T20I series against South Africa. Hooda is reportedly suffering from a back injury. Meanwhile, Umesh Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, and Shahbaz Ahmed got their names in the India squad for this series. Moreover, the BCCI confirmed that Mohammed Shami is still to recover fully from the Covid-19 infection. Henceforth, he will stay outside the squad in this T20I series.

Umesh Yadav had been there in the Indian squad in the T20Is against Australia as a replacement of Shami. He, however, returns to the same responsibility against South Africa. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer returns in place of injured Deepak Hooda. Shreyas Iyer got his name in the 2022 T-20 World Cup as a standby one.

The BCCI however declared that they will rest Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya for the upcoming series of India against South Africa.

In the BCCI release, it stated,

“Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have also reported to the NCA for conditioning-related work while Arshdeep Singh has linked up with the squad in Thiruvananthapuram.”

Hooda suffering an injury will lead him to miss all six home games ahead of the T-20 World Cup. However, Deepak Hooda is there in India 15 member World Cup Squad. Shami moreover will be missing all T-20s ahead of the World Cup. He is there too in the Standby list of World to be played in Australia.

Keeping this absence and rests aside, India will be fielding most of the team that will travels for the World Cup this October.
