Emi Martinez sell defended by Petr Cech

Aston Villa

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech defends the club’s decision to sell Emi Martinez back in 2020.

WHY SELLING EMI MARTINEZ WAS ESSENTIAL?

Martinez was in Arsenal’s academy since 2010 but lacked game time on the pitch. Back in 2019-20, Martinez stepped in to prove his worth. However, with the return of Leno, he went back to backup and sought more playtime. Therefore, in 2020, he was sold to Aston Villa for £20 million.

Cech, therefore adds that he is talented and strong. The Argentine has the energy to keep himself effectively channeled. He also added that Martinez’s move allowed him to focus and develop himself to be an elite goalkeeper.

Since Martinez joined Aston Villa, he has flourished and became one of the Premier League’s standout goalkeepers. Also, no one will ever forget his 2022 World Cup triumph. His performances made him win the 2022 World Cup golden glove and the best FIFA goalkeeper.

Despite his major success, he has been having mixed reactions about leaving Arsenal. But, in the end he thought the club did not trust as much as they should.

Now, they are in the Champions League round of 16 and have defeated Club Brugge in the first leg. So, he can prove his worth if they can advance more.

AUTHOR’S OPINION

In summary, Petr Cech has defended Arsenal saying that they did a good job letting him go. Therefore, it gave him time to find himself more and be more. Thus, he became a World Champion and now he is in the Champions League knockout stages. So, Cech says he is a resilient keeper who has the potential to be on of the greats.

So, more time will surely grant more exposure to the system and team play. Cech believes it ultimately benefits both parties.
