Chelsea Change Plans: Club Seeks to Offload £33m Signing

Chelsea

According to reports, Chelsea is considering the possibility of selling Kalidou Koulibaly during the upcoming summer transfer window. The 31-year-old defender joined Chelsea from Napoli in a £33 million transfer last July. But there are now rumors suggesting that the club is looking to offload him.

According to The Evening Standard, Chelsea is reportedly hoping to sell Koulibaly back to an Italian club in the upcoming summer transfer window. However, there seem to be two obstacles currently impeding the potential transfer.

As per the report, overseas teams are hesitant to meet the high wage demands of the center-back. Additionally, despite a challenging debut season in England. The Senegal international is keen on remaining in West London and demonstrating his abilities.

We’re not too sure where we stand right now on Koulibaly.

Chelsea and Koulibaly

There’s no doubt that the defender has massively underachieved during his first year in Chelsea colors.

He was one of the Serie A’s elite center-halves during the past decade. But his time at Stamford Bridge so far has been filled with errors and uncertainty.

If incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to use him, Koulibaly should get another year to try right his wrongs and prove how good he can actually be.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport’s report last month, Juventus has expressed interest in signing Koulibaly from Chelsea in the upcoming summer transfer window. However, there hasn’t been any substantial update on this matter in recent weeks.

It’s worth noting that Koulibaly’s current contract with Chelsea runs until the summer of 2026. Suggesting that he will likely remain with the Blues for at least another season.

If he manages to rediscover his form from his time at Napoli, Koulibaly has the potential to significantly strengthen Chelsea’s defense and contribute positively to the team.

Chelsea has endured a disappointing campaign this season. And the incoming manager, Mauricio Pochettino, will face immediate pressure to initiate a turnaround.
