Chelsea chief Todd Boehly has reportedly stepped away from contract talks with English midfielder Mason Mount.

The two parties are unable to reach an agreement that would keep Mount at the Stanford Bridge. The 18-year-old has less than 18 months left in his current contract. Mount could leave the club in the summer and various clubs are interested in his services. The likes of Liverpool, Newcastle, and Manchester United have been mentioned as possible suitors should he wish to remain in England.

Mount has been discussing with the Chelsea hierarchy for over a year, as he looks to pay in line with various players that have joined the club in the last 12 months. Boehly is hesitant to offer Mount’s desired salary as negotiations are getting tough.

The Telegraph reported that initially, Boehly was handling the negotiations, but now co-sporting director Paul Winstanle will look into the matter. As reported, Winstanley will again reopen the talks in the summer.

Mount is currently struggling with injuries. However, he has found himself out of the team after going through a rough patch this season. He will hope to make a comeback against Everton on Saturday.

POTTER SHARES HIS VIEWS ON THE MATTER AND BACKS MOUNT

Recently, Chelsea boss Graham Potter has admitted that contract negotiations talks between Mount and Chelsea has become “complicated“. Potter further stated:-

“Ultimately it is between the club and Mason,

“I have spoken to him numerous times about his situation, football and life generally. My feelings for Mason are clear. He is a fantastic person firstly but sometimes these things happen. They are just complicated and it is best that I speak little about it, let them get on with it in deciding what is right for both parties.

“I am not naive. I know it is an important time for him and an important contract. These things have to be right for him and his family. It’s important he makes a decision on that basis.”
