McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl will leave the Woking-based squad and join the Sauber Group.

In another significant transfer for the upcoming season, McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl has announced his exit from the side. The German will be joining the Sauber side as the Chief Executive Officer in January. Ferrari team principal Mattia Binott also stepped down from his role.

This will mark the return of Seidl to his old team. He earlier worked as the Head of Trackside Operations in Sauber for several years. Following this, Seidl won numerous World Endurance Titles with Porsche before joining the McLaren F1 team in 2019. Overall, the 46-year-old is highly experienced in terms of motorsports.

“It is great to join the Sauber Group from January. This is a team with a rich history in Formula 1 and an organization I know well from my time working and living in Hinwil for four years,”

said Seidl.

“I can’t wait to join the team. And work with all the colleagues at the Sauber Group on the ambitious goals we have set together. I want to thank Finn Rausing and everyone at the Sauber Group for their choice. I am looking forward to repaying their trust with my work.”

The first task after joining the side would be to look for a new face to replace the departing Fred Vasseur as the team principal of the Alfa Romeo team. This entry is also being considered important for the future of Sauber as the team is set to race as Audi from 2026.

Alfa Romeo secured their best-ever finishing position in a decade this year – finishing sixth on the constructors’ standings.
