ASTON MARTIN F1 team under pressure?

Franz Tost Germany

Aston Martin team experienced another bad race weekend at Le Castlette with both drivers only able to score 1 point combined.

Aston Martin is experiencing a terrible 2022 season. The British team has struggled with race pace this season scoring just 19 points so far.

Aston Martin had come to Paul Ricard with some upgrades to Sebastian Vettel’s car. However, the team was only able to score a single point in the race. Lance Stroll came 10th fighting to the line with his teammate.

Vettel had expected more from the race considering the upgrades on the car.

However, Vettel is still positive for the team and believes the performance will improve. Vettel said:

“We’ll have another set of parts coming in the next races and I think we are headed in the right direction. Obviously, it’s extremely competitive and everybody’s working extremely hard, but I think the spirit is right in the team and in the bigger picture. I think things are progressing well and we’re moving in a good direction.”

Aston Martin really needs to forget this afternoon. Talking about his race Vettel expressed his frustration:

“My afternoon was frustrating. I was stuck in traffic for the whole race – but you expect that when you start in the midfield. And, with the strategy, I do not think there was really much more the team could have done there. It is clear that we need more grip.”

On the other hand, Lance Stroll looked pretty happy with the single point he managed to score. The son of the Aston Martin team owner said:

“Yes, it was a good day. [The start] set us up for a good race. It was a bit tricky on the hard [tyre] at the end, but managed to score points, so happy with that. We are continuing our trend of being more competitive on a Sunday. So today is a good platform as the summer break approaches. I had a snap on the exit on the last lap because I was struggling with my tyres at the very end. It was a good fight with Sebastian, but the most important thing was to bring a point home for the team today.”

Aston Martin is 9th on Constructors standings. The team really needs to get its pieces together to find some strong pace.

Nevertheless, the hopes are high for Hungarian GP. Team principal Mike Krack believes that Hungaroring will suit the team better than Paul Ricard.
