Paul Pogba is said to be one of the few players who commanded respect from Cristiano Ronaldo. United announced on Wednesday that the World Cup winner would depart Old Trafford this season. Over the years, he did not command much respect from the United fans.

Especially for his performances and actions off the pitch. Pogba played his last match for the Red Devils against Liverpool in their dreadful loss of 4-0. However, the Red Devils fans are quite contented to see him leave.

It seems that he was still popular in the dressing room. The Athletic reports that the Frenchman commanded ‘major respect’ from superstar Ronaldo. The duo is said to have enjoyed a close relationship while the former’s last season at Old Trafford. Ronaldo even went as far as to say that he ‘wished’ that Pogba played alongside him while his time at Real Madrid.

Pogba was also seen ‘lobby’ Ronaldo while giving feedback to younger players. Ronaldo grew increasingly frustrated with the younger players while playing in Old Trafford’s comeback season. However, it would seem that Pogba took it upon himself to cajole Ronaldo to be their leader. Pogba also played a role in mediating affairs between players and Rangnick. As reports suggested that there were fissures seen within the dressing room.

What did United write as a farewell note for Paul Pogba?

United wrote on their official page,” Pogba’s final season at the club started off in hugely promising fashion, with an astonishing four assists in our opening-day thrashing of Leeds United, but more injury problems would ultimately derail his ambitions.”

It was a low-key end to a United career that had brought so many individual high moments, so many beautiful goals, assists and pieces of skill.

“But for a boy that joined the Academy at 16 to make over 200 United appearances and lift the Youth Cup, along with two major pieces of silverware – not to mention the World Cup at international level – is something that should be applauded and celebrated.”

Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Paul on his successful career, and thank him for his contributions to Manchester United. We wish him all the best for the next steps on a remarkable journey.”
