Tottenham Hotspur have been hit with a potential new coronavirus situation ahead of their League Cup semi-final first leg clash against Chelsea on Wednesday.
In a recent interview, Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte revealed that they were checking for some potential COVID-19 cases ahead of their EFL Cup semi-final first leg. The club are still waiting for the results of PCR tests.
Taking during a pre-match press conference, Conte said:
“We are checking a couple of situations about Covid,”
“We’re checking a couple of situations. We’ll see. The club are checking a couple of situations about Covid. We are not 100% sure if the players going to miss the game,”
“We are living with this situation, not only Tottenham but all the clubs. Us at the club have to be ready to find always the right solutions, the best solution for the team.
“You make a plan in your mind and sometimes you arrive and players are positive so you have to totally change your plan. It’s not easy, but not only for me but all the managers here.”
Spurs were previously hit with a Covid-19 outbreak back in December. The Covid-19 outbreak saw a few of their Premier League games postponed. Spurs also had to give up their place in the Europa Conference League knockout rounds due to postponements.
Tottenham looked all set to take on Antonio Conte’s former side Chelsea in the League Cup semi-final clash. But the clash now seems to be in major doubt due to the situation at Tottenham.
Liverpool also suffer Coronavirus setback
Just like Tottenham, Liverpool have also suffered a Covid-19 setback ahead of their League Cup semi-final clash against Arsenal. The reds manager Jurgen Klopp along with Alisson, Joel Matip and Roberto Firmino missed the Chelsea clash in the Premier League and are isolating after testing positive for the virus.
But the reds had to call off their training session due to further positive COVID-19 tests within the first-team and coaching staff. Liverpool may also see their semi-final tie against Arsenal postponed due to the current situation.
The Premier League in particular was hit with a massive Covid outbreak in the last months. A total of 18 Premier League games have been postponed over the past month due to outbreaks across a number of teams.
