Mainoo Set to Leave Manchester United and the Premier League?

Manchester United

Manchester United’s young sensation Mainoo is reportedly considering shocking exit from both the club and the Premier League. The 19 year old midfielder who has come to stardom following his first spell under Erik ten Hag, has now attracted the interest of top European clubs. Mainoo looks set to take a bold step to a new adventure abroad as United fight to secure Champions League football.

However, the reports claim an agreement is nowhere to be seen despite ongoing contract talks. However, the young Englishman has not shown any interest in switching to another Premier league club when Chelsea has also shown interest in him. Instead, he could be following in the path of Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane in going abroad for a challenge.

Manchester United’s Dilemma: To Sell or Not to Sell Mainoo?

The club is badly financially tight and unsure over squad matters, but is desperate to hang on to its academy gem. But the nearly every player placed on the transfer list in January in January was a sign of an inevitable exit for some. Experts estimate that Mainoo, currently one of United’s lowest-paid players, is worth around £70m, a significant sum in the current climate.

But new boss Ruben Amorim has also persuaded Mainoo to drop deeper in a 3-4-3 formation, showing him with the attacking role. As a No. 10, he thrived in the Europa League against FCSB. His technical ability was one of the things that Amorim praised and hinted that he could have an exciting future at United or elsewhere.

Where Could Mainoo Land Next?

Where would Mainoo go if he left Mainoo? English young talents interest Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, and they could be the target. Serie A or Ligue 1 would not be unexpected, and AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain have been tracking the crop of emerging midfielders.

That Mainoo leaves doesn’t have anything to do with lack of talent is one thing. The reason United couldn’t convince him he’s on the right club will be because they are not. If history has taught us anything (don’t say things), it isn’t usually great for United to let their youngsters wander, as they are wont to do (PAUL POGBA! Paul Pogba!).
