Jonathan David may be moving to the Premier League with several top teams keen on signing the 24-year old Lille striker. David was a crucial player in Lille’s quest to the 4th place finish this season. Lille have managed to secure a Europa League spot thanks to the striker’s immense contributions.
Chelsea and Manchester United are currently the frontrunners for the Canadian international. However, it seems unlikely that David will be a starter in either of the two teams. Chelsea may use him as a back up for Nicolas Jackson. Whereas, Manchester United will be signing David as an alternative to Rasmus Hojlund.
Both Hojlund and Jackson have already shown their prowess in front of goal. Although, both have a long way to go and are still quite young. Jonathan David has been very consistent in finding the back of the net. Something which has been a problem particularly for Manchester United. However, David may not be keen to warm up the bench considering his record at Lille. Consequently, Jonathan David may choose to opt out of Premier League move altogether. But, at the same time, the idea of playing for a big club could certainly entice the 24-year old Canadian.
Who is Jonathan David?
The 24-year old striker began his senior career in the Belgian Pro League with Gent. The Canadian international would go on to score 37 goals in 80 appearances at Gent. He would win the Belgian First Division A Top Scorer and Canadian Men’s Player of the Year in 2019.
Lille bought David for a fee of €30 million in 2020 making him the most expensive Canadian transfer ever. The 24-year old enjoyed massive success in his first year in France. David would help Lille to end PSG’s Ligue 1 quadruple hopes. Moreover, the Canadian would also win the Trophee des Champions in 2021.
Jonathan David in huge demand by top Premier League teams!
Jonathan David has caught eye of Premier League teams other than Manchester United and Chelsea. Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham are also keen to secure a move for the 24-year old.
David has been impressive with Lille. The forward has scored 10+ goals in his first two seasons. Subsequently, the striker has bagged 26 goals in each of his previous two campaigns. Moreover, he also has 26 goals for Canada in 48 national caps! His consistency in front of goal is simply admirable!
Furthermore, his ability to find gaps coupled with his intricate passing with teammates in the oppositions’ third makes him more deadly up front. Additionally, his lightning pace makes him a threat on the counter attack. Moreover, his work-rate and the ability to read the game is rather admirable.

Will the Canadian finally move?
Undoubtedly, Jonathan David is a good player and has the numbers to back him up. Needless to say, many top clubs have been lurking around him for quite some time.
However, David has never really managed to secure a move. If the speculations are true, the 24-year old may find himself playing for a top European club for a decent pay grade. Additionally, the number of quality number 9’s in the world of football have drastically reduced. So, the Canadian could find himself playing in better circumstances.
But, the fact that things never progress beyond rumors has left the spectators to wonder if there is something wrong. If the player’s agent or anyone is spreading the news just for namesake, then they must be wary of the consequences that may befall them.
Especially, considering the talented striker may lose his credibility in the market and no one would take him seriously if this continues!
