Kevin Prince Boateng lied to join Barcelona in 2019

Former AC Milan midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng reveals he lied to join Barcelona in January 2019 as he won La liga in the respective season.

The 36-year-old took retirement in 2021 after spending 19 years across various clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, Portsmouth and AC Milan. He joined Barcelona on a loan move till end of 2018-19 campaign.

However Kevin Prince Boateng made only 5 apperances for the Barcelona as he lifted both La Liga and Spanish Super Cup during his time at Camp Nou.

Speaking on the Vibe with Five Podcast, Boateng revealed that he lied that Lional Messi was the best player in the world when he joined Barcelona. He said:-

“I remember that when I arrived in Barcelona they immediately asked me who the best player in the world was. I had to say it was Lionel Messi, I lied. It was one of the biggest lies of my life.

“Normally I always tell the truth, but I lied because it was the only way to wear the Barcelona shirt. I always supported Real Madrid when I was a teenager. I love Cristiano Ronaldo. But they told me I had to say that, otherwise I wouldn’t play.”

Boateng also opened about his relationship with Messi at Barcelona

Kevin Prince Boateng also opened about his relationship with Lionel Messi at Barcelona. The Former Ghanaian International claims that World Cup winner only to spoke him once.

Boateng opened about up about the conversation and said :-

“Messi is the captain but doesn’t speak. We spoke one time in the shower because he asked if it’s difficult to score in Italy because Ronaldo was there at that time, and he showed the rivalry between them.

“I told him that it was more difficult that Ronaldo was there, and he scored every game for three years. People forget too easily what he’s done there.”
